Nails For Newton

Hello, Yesterday was both a day for celebration and a day of great sorrow and reflection. You see December 14th, 2012 was my youngest daughter's 3rd birthday. It was also one of the saddest days of our lives. There was another school shooting this one hitting even closer to our hearts as our children are in Kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade, and of course our three year old. I can only imagine how the families and friends of the victims in Newton Connecticut are feeling. In support of them I have done a nails for Newton manicure. I chose a white and green mani for their school colors. I added jewels to symbolize the new soul as stars shining bright in the heavens.  Please hold your families close as you sends your prayers to the friends and families of the victims.

Purple Gradient With Glitter Tips

Purple Gradient With Glitter Tips

This my first mani since I have decided to try square tips...
Still not sure how I feel about them, they feel very strange to me.

I am hopeless at doing a sponge gradient, so I choose
to use the fan brush method.
Here is is the result of using three very
beautiful purples got me.

I hope you enjoy, please feel free to comment as to if you think my squoval tips or square tips work better.

Polishes used:

To Squoval or To Square?

One of my coworkers (Tina) has been begging me to try square nails, and I have been putting it off. But.... since my left thumb nail got snapped off and I have to wait a bit for it to grow out. I am going to give square nails a try. I would like your opinion. These are pictures of my natural nails.

To have Squoval nails or...
Pardon the state of my cuticles.

To have Square nails???
Cuticles are looking much better.

That is the question...

I will be posting before and after pictures with polish as well.

WTF!?! What happened here???

Here's a story about a girl and her thumb nails:

So on Tuesday night after filing down the nails on my right hand. (Very sad a little over a week ago my right thumbnail started to tear back towards the quick, so I patched it using a empty teabag and some super glue.) I decided that the thumb nail had grown out enough that I could shorten all the nails on my right hand, much shorter than I like. But because it is not the hand I take pictures on, I thought "Ok no big deal." I debated on bringing my left hand nails down just a bit and decided nah no real reason to......

Well, I guess I was WRONG!!! I got up Wednesday morning to find the temperature had dropped, so I went out to grab my hat and gloves out of the van. The heater in my car is having some issues, it sounds as though a giant hamster has taken up residence and runs on a giant wheel every time I turn my heater on. On top of which I am down to only one speed on the fan, HIGH... So I felt they would be a good choice to take with me to work. So grabbing the keyless entry remote on my way out the door, out I went.  Halfway across the front yard I unlocked the doors by pushing the button twice, and that is when it happened....

My left thumbnail snapped!!! All the way across but maybe a millimeter to hold it on, about 1/8in back into the quick or nailbed. At least there was no blood and a few layers are still there to protect the nailbed. There was much cursing and I think the whole neighborhood might have heard me. I think that it was the universe's way of telling me I should listen to my own advise, much like Alice in Wonderland, and just brought them down a little bit....

So I thought I might show a before and after shot...

This is what they looked like before the remote.

And this is the after of what my thumb looks like now.
And yes that is my real nail... :(

Liebster Award

I was nominated by Janet Planet Nails and Polish Insomnia.
So instead of just a post I added it as a page because I feel very honored to have been nominated. Link below

I thought today was a good day to get this done as,
I have busted my left thumbnail off about
1/8in down into the quick... :(

So this is cheering me up!!! :)

November 10-Day Nail Art Challenge: Day 10 - Recreate Your Favorite

November 10-Day Nail Art Challenge:
Day 10 - Recreate Your Favorite

I can't believe this is over! I have has so much fun with this. Big thanks to Erica for putting this together!
Also big round of applause to all the ladies that participated for showing off your lovely works of nail art.

I chose to base this on off of
OMG Wait What Polish Is That's
Day # 6 Inspired By A Tutorial Post.

I used a turkey feather to be floating around my house.
I thought it would be a lot harder to do.

I hope you enjoy this mani.

I used Pure Ice Magnetic Nail Effects: Ion-ically Yours for the base, I love the color, but did not use a magnet on it. I used Seche Vite for my topcoat, and Seche Clear for my base coat.

This is a picture of my inspiration mani.

Julep - Trina

Trina by Julep
This polish is described as a deep aubergine shimmer.
Trina is from the Bombshell collection,
I got this in my November Bombshell box.
I love this color. I would describe it as a
shimmery red with purple undertones.

What is your Julep style?

November 10-Day Nail Art Challenge: Day 9 - Water Marble

November 10-Day Nail Art Challenge:
Day 9 - Water Marble

I have to admit I do not like doing water marbling. I love the way other people's look, not mine so much yet.

I liked the colors from the last challenge, so I tried them for this, alas not much impact.
